Double-size Painting in Progress

So I wanted to do a double-size piece for my Dance of Life series, that could be a kind of keystone piece when I show all of the works together. Most of my pieces in this series are 20"x30", and this piece will be 30" wide by 40" tall. This is one of the largest pieces I have attempted, especially with this level of detail. I have surprised myself by really liking this larger size. Only drawbacks are that it is taking me awhile to complete, and I'd like to get through a number of new pieces for this series this year.

Photo Shoot!

I recently did an art photo shoot in and around my studio. The idea was to get some good shots of me with my art that I can use on my website and in art submissions. I know if I can put a face with a name, it makes a big difference in how well I identify with a person, whether I've met them or not.

Orchid Painting in Progress

I've been working on my Dance of Life series painting of orchids, and it is completed! Here's my process.

I started out with my theme of orchids because I wanted to do some kind of flowers, and I was amazed at the range of different shapes and colors that I found. I also like flowers that look exotic and sensual; surprising, and these fit the bill. For this painting I used photos from books. Some of the photos were quite small, so I was able to use my personal inspiration. I heightened the natural color to give a vibrant, lively quality to the piece.
